Information about Hawaii for EVERYONE
Polynesian Voyaging Society and NASA
Seems that the Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS) are on their way to prove that the Polynesian seafarers were amazing in their ability to navigate throughout the South Pacific and as far north as Hawaii before European explorers arrived in the Pacific in the 1500's.
Hokule'a is a voyaging canoe that is designed similar to those the Polynesians seafarers used when they were exploring the South Pacific before the 1500's.
In 1992, there was historic three-way satellite communication link with the Hokule'a traveling in the South Pacific, NASA's space shuttle Columbia and some children of Hawaii. The children asked those aboard both vessel about navigation of their vessels and about exploration.
